So, is Lily Allen’s New Album AI Generated?

did ai write lily Allen's new album?

The use of AI is becoming more and more prevalent, so much so that it is becoming harder and harder to spot. Just this year alone it is said that over 1 billion people are now using standalone AI tools and bots, with some sources claiming that 20% of all humanity now use it. 66% of adults completing a global survey confirmed that they do indeed use AI in their everyday lives.

But with all of those admitting to using the tools, there are those who denounce them. There are countless arguments made online about the ethical, moral and ecological dilemmas surrounding the use of Generative AI. At first, we were just worried that I Robot would come true. Now, more and more of us are concerned about ti creeping into artistic spaces and taking the jobs of humans that have been striving for years to hone their craft and make their passion into a liveable wage.

Writers, painters, digital artists, lyricists. If AI can perform these tasks, at just a fraction of the cost — and without the need for the co-operations to actually care for their employees – where does it leave the humans? Recently, Amazon have laid off huge amounts of their staff as they very openly embraced replacing them with automated systems. The purge has begun!

AI in Creative Spaces

But it is not only the big companies that are now leaning on the tools for their work. And, as a self-publishing author, some of the online spaces I am in have seen a huge uplift in AI use.

We have already touched on the response of AI being used in creative spaces. Authors of Amazon’s bestselling self-published books have been called out for leaving AI script in their latest book. Artists who use AI content have had their comment sections flooded with angry comments. For some, the use of AI is clear, and abhorrent.

However, the use of AI for one thing, says a lot about the person using it. If they are willing to use AI to help make their new book cover, chances are they may have used AI to write what is inside the book as well. Using the tools in one area could so easily bleed into another when you already have the mentality that AI is ok to use.

Enter Lily Allen’s album, West End Girl.

West End Chatbot

On the 24th October 2025, Lily dropped a new album — the aforementioned West End Girl.

Fans welcomed the album — her first in almost a decade — with open arms and the personal details within the songs caused the album to go viral almost instantly. It is currently sitting at #2 on the UK album charts, with some of the singles being streamed up to 5 million times since release.

Theories about the album’s content have since spiralled, with some claiming it may be a strategic ploy to get her house to sell quicker or to amp up the spotlight during the Stranger Things media tour. However, it is a theory that I haven’t seen spoken about anywhere that I am more interested in.

Did Lily use AI to write her new album?

Lily’s AI Usage

Lily has openly admitted to using AI chatbots. In an episode of her podcast discussing her conversations with David Harbour, Lily stated that she used ChatGPT to pen her messages for her. Below is a quote from the podcast, that has been made into transcript by a news outlet.

In a more recent November episode, Lily shared that she had been using AI to help her in arguments with David.

The Smile singer explained that she relied on ChatGPT to help her articulate her points during their rows.

‘I use [ChatGPT] more for personal stuff,’ she explained. ‘If me and David have had an argument and I need to articulate it, I’ll be like, “Write me a long text message about an argument that started with the dishwasher and ended in an argument about our finances”.’

She also shared the prompts she uses to make the responses more personal, explaining: ‘That’s great but can you add in a bit about how I think this is all actually to do with his mum?’ You just copy and paste every single one until you’ve got enough.’

In another episode of the podcast, Miss Me, Lily and co-host Miquita discussed the use of AI in general. Whilst Miqutia strongly stated her views on AI that AI needs to “take a step back from creative spaces”, Lily noticeably says very little during the episode. One commenter stated that “Lily was making her yawn”, as the host was sat with her arms crossed and very silent for most of the 29 minutes.

Lily did state however that she uses chatbots to tidy up her messages, especially ones that are important such as to her children’s school. When Miquita asks if Lily cannot do that alone, she simply says “no”. So, we are already firmly aware that Lily uses chatbots in her personal life and have various sources telling us so. But, do we have any evidence that she uses it in a professional capacity?

Promotions and Assumptions

With her first album in almost a decade out in the world, Lily now has to promote it. But with social media now taking over for most of this part, there’s actually very little Lily has to do on these platforms. Her sound bites are viral, she is all over the news outlets and streams are through the roof.

However, Lily has a Youtube channel and she wants to add some short clips to her own socials, so what does she do? She turns to her good buddy AI. On Lily’s YouTube channell, as of writing, there are a numberof short clips that show Lily singing to her latest album. However, as some of the oeople in the commets have mentioned, there is something odd about them. They all seem to be AI generated.

They’re blurry, they all have a sense of uncanny valley and there are definitely some strange finger, gun and clothing moments that don’t. line up with reality. I have included the work assumptions here, because let’s face it, unless Lily tells us that she made AI videos, we will never know. It could not be AI, It could not be her making them. But with Lily’s confirmed usage and her clearly seeing nothing wrong with using it, we can safely assume it is.

Making an ass-out of u and me?

What else can we assume from what we know?

Lily has stated she uses ChatGPT to make messages with her estranged husband easier. Therefore, she has to give ChatGPT a certain amount of information about their personal lives — including screenshots and personal details she mentioned earlier — for it to give a good message to reply with. We can assume then that her AI knows a portion, if not all, of her relationship woes.

During her podcast AI episode, Lily was asked about her thoughts on Ai being used as therapy for kids. She stated that maybe Ai would have better advice for her kids than she could give, so maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Can we assume from this that Lily uses her own tools for advice or therapy? If so, it would be easy for ChatGPT to know intimate details of her life. Both of these points would let ChatGPT have enough information to really flesh out an album based on her reason personal life.

Lily is happy to use AI, presumably, for professional work such as video promos. And ChatGPT would have easy access to her whole backlog of musical history to learn her style, tone and lyricism. It has been stated multiple times that this album was done within a very short time frame, with Lily claiming that she wrote the album in just ten days and that she turned up at a recording studio with all track names, themes and lyrics ready to go.

A massive feat for someone who claimed that they can’t even send an email without AI help.

So, is West End Girl AI?

With what we know, what has been reported and what we can infer for ourselves, is it really such a leap?

Maybe she didn’t say “hey, Chat. Write me an album about all of the relationship issues I have discussed with you.” But it is plausible she asked for certain parts of it. Ideas, inspiration, lyrics, polishing and tidying up. And, let’s be honest, Lily has already made her buck from the album now and will continue to do so. If it was a known fact, there would no doubt be those who see nothing wrong with it and will still support it regardless.

I would love to know below what you think. Did she? Didn’t she? Does it matter if she did?

Even if Lily Allen did use AI to make her new album, in a world where even her own friend and co-host denounces the use of AI in creative areas, would she ever admit it?
